Terms of Use

Last updated: 8 April 2026

1. About these terms

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of PlayChess, including the public website at playchess.uk and the platform at app.playchess.uk.

By using PlayChess, you agree to these terms. If you are a parent or coach creating an account on behalf of a child, you agree to these terms on your own behalf and accept responsibility for the child's use of the platform.

Please read these terms carefully. If you do not agree, do not use PlayChess.

2. Who we are

PlayChess is operated in the United Kingdom. For queries, contact us at [email protected].

3. Access and eligibility

PlayChess is currently in a private beta. Access is by invitation only. To join, submit an application on this website; we will contact you if a space becomes available.

Child accounts may only be created by a responsible adult (parent or coach) who has provided verifiable parental consent. You must be 18 or over to create an adult account or to act as the responsible guardian for a child account.

4. Your account

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure and not sharing them with others
  • All activity that takes place under your account
  • Ensuring the information you provide is accurate and kept up to date
  • Notifying us immediately at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised

Child accounts use display name aliases and platform-managed credentials. Adults are responsible for managing child credentials and for their child's use of the platform.

5. Acceptable use

You must not use PlayChess to:

  • Harass, bully, or harm any other user
  • Post or transmit content that is unlawful, abusive, threatening, or obscene
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another user's account or data
  • Interfere with the platform's operation (e.g. throughautomated attacks, scraping)
  • Use the platform for any commercial purpose without our written consent
  • Impersonate PlayChess, our staff, or any other user

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. Platform content

All chess lessons, exercises, and educational content on PlayChess are provided for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission.

7. Children's safety

The safety of children using PlayChess is our highest priority. Adults who create or manage child accounts agree to:

  • Supervise their child's use of the platform appropriately for the child's age
  • Report any concerns about content or behaviour to us immediately
  • Not share a child's credentials with people who do not have parental responsibility for the child

We do not provide open chat between children and unknown adults. All social features are restricted to members of the same group (family or coaching group) managed by the responsible adult.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep PlayChess available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may take the service offline for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss resulting from unavailability of the service.

PlayChess is provided “as is” during the private beta. Features may change or be removed. We will notify users of material changes by email.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PlayChess is not liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential losses
  • Loss of data (other than as set out in our Privacy Policy)
  • Actions of third parties

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting [email protected]. We will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or if we decide to close the beta programme. We will give reasonable notice where possible.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. Continued use of PlayChess after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
